Police in North West Nile region has registered an increase in the cases of domestic violence and child abuse in the month of April 2023.
According to a crime report released by the regional police for Northwest Nile region. Although, the report indicates a drop in other crimes, there is an increase in child and family related offences in the four Districts of Yumbe, Adjumani, obongi and Moyo.
The family related cases that were reported include, child neglect, physical violence, and emotional violence, deserting of children, missing child, and assault with Adjumani district leading.
According to the police regional child and family protection officer North west Nile region Alio David, cases of domestic violence and child abuse have increased in the region which he attributed to poverty alcoholism, and idleness by most men who have failed to provide for their families contributing to cases of family neglect.
He also explained that cases of children getting lost has increased in the region saying that this is because most adults go to the field to cultivate leaving the young children at home on their own and in the process of looking for their mothers, they end up getting lost.
The report indicated that biggest number of family related cases last month were registered in Adjumani District with a total of 28, followed by Yumbe District with 24, Moyo with 12, Obongi with 6 reported cases.
