A dark cloud has fallen over the Kampala–Gulu highway at Kitaleba Village, near Asili Farm after a deadly accident claimed several lives on a quiet Wednesday morning on 22nd October, 2025 at around 12:15 am, just before Kigumba Town.
The tragic crash involved four motor vehicles; UBF 614X, Isuzu Bus (Nile Star Coaches), CGO 5132AB 07 Toyota Surf, UBK 614X Tata Lorry & UAM 045V, Isuzu Bus (Planet Company)
According to the Investigations Launchee by Uganda Police Force (UPF), the Driver of UBF 614X Isuzu bus traveling from Kampala towards Gulu attempted to overtake the Tata Lorry (UBK 647C) at Kitaleba Village.
The Isuzu bus (UAM 045V), traveling from the Opposite direction, was also attempting to overtake the Toyota Surf (CGO 5132AB 07). In the process, both buses met head-on during the overtaking maneuvers. One of the drivers swerved in an attempt to avoid collision, but this resulted in a head on and side collision, causing a chain reaction that led to other vehicles losing control and over tuning several times. As a result confirmed 63 People lost lives, all occupants from involved vehicles and several others sustained injuries.
Screams filled the air as passengers in all the involvement motor vehicles cried for help. Uganda Police Force arrived at the scene promptly transporting injured passengers to Kiryandongo Hospital and Other nearby medical facilities for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to the same Hospital Mortuary for Post-Mortem and Identification as their faces marked by shock and disbelief.
As the sun rise on Kiryandongo this morning, one could still feel the sorrow in the air — a chilling reminder of how fragile life is, and how one moment of impatience on the road can shatter so many lives forever.
