Barely a year after her spouse passed on, Queen Elizabeth Alexandra Mary the second lost the battle at Balmoral.
In a statement, Buckingham Palace said:
“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon”
Concerns about her deteriorating health grew earlier on Thursday however, no exact sickness that could have killed her has not been available to the press as The Union Flag could be seen at half mast over Buckingham Palace.
Her majesty the Queen came to the throne in 1952 succeeding King George VI and witnessed enormous social change making her the longest-serving monarch in British history and an icon instantly recognisable to billions of people around the world.
With her death, her eldest son Charles 73, the former Prince of Wales will lead the country in mourning as the new King and head of state for 14 Commonwealth realms.
