The President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir welcomes Pope Francis a few hours ago after his flight at Juba international Airport where thousands of people gathered at the airport and lined the streets.
Pope Francis had completed his mission in DR.Congo yesterday before his Juba flight.
The Pope thereafter met the Vice President and then concluded his arrival day by sharing briefly with authorities, civil society and the diplomatic community.
The 86-year-old pontiff is joined by two eminent religious leaders, the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, and the Moderator General of the Church of Scotland Rt.Rev. Dr. Iain Greenshields for what they have dubbed as the ‘Pilgrimage of Peace to South Sudan.’
South Sudanese Nationals have a believe that Pope's visit in Juba South Sudan will abolish unending war in South Sudan that has left Millions flew out of the Country leaving them as Refugees & IDP's.
South Sudan broke away from Sudan to become independent in 2011 after decades of conflict, but civil war erupted in 2013 & 2015 respectively. Despite a 2018 peace deal between the two main antagonists, violence & hunger still plague the country.
The Pope will tomorrow 4th.02.2023 start his apostolic service in the capital City Juba with Deacons, Rev.Frs, Archbishops,Bishops etc. However, he will finalize his Apostolic mission on Sunday with holy Mass.
