Police Rescue Adjumani Town Council LC III Chairperson from Mob Attack
Adjumani Police have today intervened to rescue the Local Council III Chairperson of Adjumani Town Council, Hon. Lawrence Mangapi, following a violent incident that nearly claimed his life.
According to confirmed reports, Hon. Lawrence Mangapi, accompanied by three other individuals (yet to be identified), visited the home of NRM flag bearer Dulu Angel Mark on January 17, 2026. The group reportedly said they had gone to console him after his loss in the elections held on January 15, 2026.
However, the visit quickly turned chaotic when an angry mob descended on the group and launched a violent attack. Hon. Mangapi and the three others narrowly escaped death, though they sustained serious beatings during the incident.
In the course of the violence, Hon. Mangapi’s vehicle, registration number UBR-018F, was tampered with and later set ablaze by the mob, burning completely before police arrived at the scene.
Police responded swiftly, rescued the victims, and safely escorted Hon. Mangapi and the three others to Adjumani Central Police Station for protection.
Speaking to Radio Amani 89.1 FM, Dulu Angel Mark revealed that the group arrived at his home carrying three watermelons and an egg, which they claimed were gifts. He added that tensions escalated after Hon. Mangapi received several phone calls, reportedly from Adjumani Woman MP-elect Ababiku Jesca and Hospital Administrator Oja Micheal, which heightened suspicion among the crowd.
The District Police Commander (DPC) of Adjumani, SP Masembe Harbert, confirmed that calm has since been restored in the area. He stated that police have launched investigations into the incident and that the victims will first receive medical attention.
Investigations are ongoing, and more updates will be shared as details emerge.
