Freddie Line, a trailblazer from the beginning of his musical career, captured the hearts of many music fans with 'Chinya,' an introductory song he released in 2019 in collaboration with Hope Wakanda, which continues to receive massive airplay. The duo stayed together for some time, producing love ballads such as 'Misi,' 'Love Is,' 'Tandi,' among others, cementing their place in the West Nile entertainment scene.
However, they had to part ways due to different career priorities; Hope pursued her law career while Freddie Line ventured into the corporate world.
In an interview with Freddie Line, he announced his solo career and a more professional approach to music. The singer expressed that music has always been his passion, and he had been singing for fun long before he hit the studio.
“I always thought of myself as talented, but I didn't like the idea of being in the limelight. During my time with Hope, I handled the background job (writing), and Hope complemented it very well. However, along the way, we had different priorities,” he said.
Freddie Line had to overcome his fear of the public eye because he felt something was missing. “The point of making music was that there was a way I wanted the West Nile sound to be, but I wasn’t hearing it,” he said. However, he acknowledged that local artists are doing well but insists that there is room for improvement.
“There is a way I feel Lugbara 'ti needs to be written, with an urban vibe that could be recognized everywhere, and that is what I think I can do. A piece like ‘Chinya’ is just the tip of it all. I believe there can still be something deeper.”
The singer admits he had to take time off to rediscover himself and refine his art to bring out the best. “After 'Chinya,' I still wasn’t content because I wanted music from here to move beyond West Nile. I have been writing and recording, but I had to do more soul-searching. This is why I took off 2 and a half years, and now I feel I am ready to take on the challenge.”
Freddie Line still prefers a private life, and he intends to keep his professional and private life separate. “I still like my life private, but I also have a corporate life, and I wouldn’t want the two mixed up.”
Regarding the new chapter in his career, Freddie Line said, “The new music is amazing, all about the simple life, with themes of love, society, and inspiration. We are starting with a dedication to where I grew up—' Made in Mvara'—because my greatest inspiration comes from my roots, and I only feel it is right to recognize that in my works.”
The singer hinted that the musical pieces would be accompanied by great visuals that the land may not have come across before, keeping us anticipating more. We all can’t wait to experience the solo version Freddie Line is about to deliver. 2024 already looks to be a promising year.
