Four Houses Burn in Obongi District

More than four Houses have reportedly got burnt in Obongi District
Bush burning fire has caused harm to the community of Gimara Sub-County, Obongi District by burning a number of grass thatched houses & Gardens. The Leaders in the district have warned residents against bush burning which has bee commonly practiced during the dry season.

The report that has reached Tonetouch Media by the time of gathering this story indicates about four grass thatched houses & a number  of entrenched crop fields of the locals have been burnt flat over the weekend. According to the Authorities of the Sub-County, "these set caught fire due to the illegal bush burning practices.

The leaders have quoted poor attitude towards environmental management & other rampant human activities such as hunting which is one of the factors of bush burning.

In accordance with the Chairperson for Gimara Sub-County Lomo George, bush burning is their major challenge especially during dry season.

“ It's true that our locals are suffering since their houses got burnt & even their crops like sorghum, Cassava etc. We had a council meeting when we were closing for the Christmas”. 

“We emphasized alot about the impact of bush burning to the community which needs a collective responsibilities  with the District & Local Government. In the midst of every effort put to end the rampant bush burning practices in the Sub-County” He adds.

The women councilor for Itula & Gimara questioned, why bush burning has constantly remain in their Area?,

 “these people are aware of the effect of bush burning but i don't know why they continue with these kind of bad behaviors”, Says Rukia.

"We always keep advising the community during our meetings on the impact of bush burning from different angles eg Village level,parish, Sub-County & even district", She adds.

The Authority leaders have continued to blame the locals over rampant bush burning & warned them to desist from such practices.
