Adjumani registers 136 defilement and child marriage cases since lockdown

As of last week, a data in the Adjumani district education department shows a total of 136 school girls have been defiled, impregnated or married early.
The data puts Itirikwa Sub County top on the list with 40 cases since the lockdown from March.2020 and 30 of these are from Mungula Primary School followed by Pakele Sub County with 32, Ofua 18, Adjumani Town Council 17, Ciforo 14, Pachara 04, Dzaipi 04, Ukusijoni 03, Adropi 03 and Arinyapi with least 01 case.
The recent case involves two young men in Lori village, Ciforo Sub County who are in police custody for defiling their 15yr old cousin sister; they include Taban Maliamungu 28, and Vudri Micheal 22.
The incident according to the minor occurred last Thursday 20th.August.2020 when Vudri, son to her uncle bought them alcoholic drinks before he took her to his house and defiled her.
“After defiling me, he then brought me where Taban sleeps and one of the boys sleeping with him vacated the house leaving us with Taban but he did not do anything with me. I went home but feared telling my mother since she is easily infuriated and I went and disclose the ordeal to my aunt” the minor explained.
Letio Dominica, mother to the victim is doubtful if Taban did not defile her daughter accusing Taban for attempting to seduce the girl in love under the guise of providing scholastic materials. Letio explained that they share the same room with her daughter however on the fateful night; the girl did not come home until 6am in the morning when she arrived home and upon inquiry, she insisted that they slept together with her colleague girlfriend.
Mr. Chandiga Richard, the head teacher Umwia Primary School expressed disappointment over the incident saying during his three year stay at the school, he has not registered such a case urging law to take its course to deter the rest from committing the same offense.
Vuni Richard, uncle to the minor asked young men to desist from the vice advising parents to watch closely the moves of their children and see that they are at home late in the evening.
Mr. Dranzu Alex, the LCI Lori village blamed the saddening incident on Marungi chewing and alcohol consumption warning his subjects that it should stop with immediate effect.
